Student Advisors in the Faculty of Law can help you plan your degree or prepare special applications about your course of study in Law or Criminal Justice. From our location on campus to booking an appointment with an advisor, find out about Law and Criminal Justice support at UC.

HOW TO APPLY

Student advisors

Drop-in Sessions: 10 February 鈥 28 February 2025:

From 10 February until 28 February, Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 11.30am and 2.00pm to 3.30pm the Law Faculty Advising Team will be offering open-door, no appointment necessary, first-come, first served, advising sessions for LLB and BCJ students.

Please note this exclusion: There are no drop-in sessions on Friday 14 February owing to Welcome Day activities.

For the drop-in sessions, please come to Meremere Level 3 and take a seat in the waiting area outside office 333.听

Demand for advice at this time of year is heavy, so this means your meetings with advisors are likely to be brief and you may have to wait for a little bit to be seen. If you come close to the end of our drop-in sessions, e.g. 11.15am or 3.15pm, depending on the number of people waiting in line already, we may not be able to see you in that session and might ask you to return another day.听听 Please be respectful and kind while we are trying our best to see as many of you as we can. 听

During the drop-in period, we may be unable to answer phones, respond to emails or offer any set appointment times.

Faculty听of Law Student Advisors are located on Level 3, Meremere Building and individual appointments may be made by following the Book an Appointment听link below or by emailing one of the Advisors for an appointment.听

The Student Advisors in the听Faculty of Law can assist you in a variety of ways from planning your degree to helping with special applications regarding your course of study in Law or Criminal Justice.

If you are studying a double degree other than the BCJ/LLB, it is important that you seek or have obtained advice on the requirements of your other degree.

First year student advice

For first year student advice, please contact Eurica Thapa and Meredith Sim at听firstyearadvice@canterbury.ac.nz.听Eurica Thapa and Meredith Sim are the Kaitoko (Law and Criminal Justice) in Te P膩taka. When emailing, please include your eight-digit Student ID# and surname in the subject line.

Stuck Enrolment
  • If your enrolment is not progressing through the online system (e.g. for Waitlist, HOD Approval Required, Pre-Req failure, Change of Enrolment), then you may not need to see and advisor:, email听lawandjusticedegreeadvice@canterbury.ac.nz听about the issue.
  • For third time enrolment please email the Assistant Dean (Students)听simon.dorset@canterbury.ac.nz听with a rationale for why this should be considered and what you will do to ensure success this time.听
  • For workload checks please attend an open-door advising session to see an Advisor.
  • When emailing, please include your eight-digit Student ID# and surname in the subject line.
Studylink / Limited Full Time
  • If you simply need a Limited Full Time Form completed by a member of staff, you should complete your part of the form and then send the whole form back to听lawandjusticedegreeadvice@canterbury.ac.nz. If you are relying on supporting evidence, include that to. When emailing, please include your eight-digit Student ID# and surname in the subject line.

AKO | Learn access
  • Learn access is made available to students who are fully enrolled in courses and access at the start of the year is only available for Semester 1 (S1) and whole year (W) courses.听 Access to Semester 2 courses will be made available no more than 10 days before the start of the course.

Book an appointment

Send us an email

You can email us at听lawandjusticedegreeadvice@canterbury.ac.nz for queries to do with your degree, such as:

  • Enrolment issues, including prerequisite failures in UC Student Web when you have met prerequisites from previous study or credit transfers
  • To check if you will meet degree requirements (points check). If it is too complicated to determine this by email, we will ask you to book an appointment
  • Course selection options due to postponed or cancelled courses
  • Completed applications for exemptions
  • Other quick queries regarding your degree.

Vicky's office is room 331, Nicole's office is room 367 and Simon's office is room 333 - on Level 3 of the Meremere building.

Faculty of Law reception

Our reception area is located on level听three of Meremere听on University Drive. It is open from 9.15am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

You can deliver applications for processing to our level听3 reception area from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.

Such documents include:

  • Completed transfer or credit applications
  • Completed Exemption from prerequisite/Concurrent enrolment applications
  • Transcripts 鈥 the reception team can photocopy and verify these if we require them (and for transfer or credits).

You can cancel an appointment online or email听your name, student ID and appointment date and time to听lawandjusticedegreeadvice@canterbury.ac.nz.
