At UC, you can connect your studies to the real world through a range of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) activities. WIL opportunities integrate theory with practice in authentic workplace environments, including practical placements and work-related projects. Find out more and contact the WIL team if you have any questions.

HOW TO APPLY
What do we mean by Work-Integrated Learning?

Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is an umbrella term for the variety of structured learning opportunities integrated into many courses and degree programmes at UC. WIL experiences connect academic theory and real-world practice, allowing students to apply what they've learned in an authentic workplace environment. Through active engagement in professional settings, WIL enhances and supports students' academic and professional development.

Depending on your programme of study, you may encounter WIL experiences under different names, such as practicums, internships, case-based learning, or industry competition. WIL opportunities may include work placements (e.g., industry, community, iwi, government, online and/or simulated workplace environments) or work-related projects (e.g., final-year projects, community-based work, assessable study components, or industry case competitions).

As a student, completing a Work-Integrated Learning experience has many benefits:

  • Enhances your CV
  • Improves employability
  • Provides an opportunity to apply your knowledge and expertise in practical settings
  • Helps establish and develop your professional networks
  • Supports personal and professional development
